What battery does a wireless doorbell button use?
Most wireless doorbell buttons take an A23 (12 V high-voltage alkaline battery). Some use CR2032 or CR2450 instead. Pull the button cover off its back plate; the battery is behind it.
| Battery | How common | Size | Volts | Capacity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A23 | Most common | 10.3 mm × 28.5 mm | 12 V | ≈ 50 mAh |
| CR2032 | Also used | 20 mm × 3.2 mm | 3 V | ≈ 225 mAh |
| CR2450 | Also used | 24.5 mm × 5 mm | 3 V | ≈ 620 mAh |
Wireless Doorbell Button battery: what to know
- Wireless doorbell push buttons commonly take a 12 V A23, or a CR2032 or CR2450 coin cell.
- Video doorbells such as Ring use built-in rechargeable packs rather than standard batteries.
- The indoor chime unit usually plugs into the wall or takes C or D cells.
How to check which battery your wireless doorbell button takes
Pull the button cover off its back plate; the battery is behind it. Battery codes are printed on the flat face of coin and button cells and along the side of AA, AAA and 9V batteries. Match the code exactly: a cell that looks similar can be a different thickness or voltage; see the A23 page for safe swaps.
A23: An A23 is eight tiny 1.5 V button cells stacked in one shell.
